Having a child diagnosed with cancer comes as a devastating blow. Faced with a period of months and sometimes years of grueling treatment and an unknown future, the related emotional ups and downs are often referred to by families as like ‘being on a roller coaster’. LATCH Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity is a voluntary organisation which supports children in Wales who are receiving treatment for cancer and their families. Our primary aim is to ease the journey of the children and their families during the months, and in many cases years, of difficult and painful treatment. Practical and emotional support is provided by the LATCH funded Social Workers, together with trips and treats to keep the children’s spirits up. LATCH offers family accommodation within the hospital to avoid separation. Siblings can stay at weekends and during the school holidays. There is no charge to the families and LATCH fully maintains the accommodation to the highest standard. LATCH funds the purchase of medical equipment and a range of clinical projects aimed at making the lives of children more comfortable on the wards, at home and in the community. LATCH has no paid fundraisers and relies solely on the generosity of the public to support its work.
Every £1 is so valuable as we support children in Wales who are receiving treatment for cancer and their families.
